I had a lot of big ideas for this video. Surprisingly, most of them worked out. Almost completely done in iMovie; I did use Final Cut Express for the four-way split screens. (My old mac can't run the current version of Final Cut Pro). Most of the work was timing: stretching or compressing bits of footage of each guy speaking -- to match the vocals in the song. I spent way too much time looking at lip and tongue movement, one frame at a time, while listening for the beginning of (for instance) a "T" sound in the vocal track, and aligning the two. The phone "apps" are animations I put together from a string of .jpg files I drew (because I don't know any better and don't have animation software). Paul's phone could not play video -- you can see I used "picture in picture: to overlay it. For the others I rendered the animations in reverse, loaded them in the phones, and shot each user holding the phone rock steady. I put a verbal countdown in the animation so when the (reversed) animation reached the end (beginning), the phone holder knew to quickly pull the phone away. Once that footage was reversed again, it looks like each guy whips out his phone to show you a music app at precisely the right moment. Just-in-time delivery. Magic! Editing ...
